We’re all moved in (sort of)!
Hi book peeps,
We’re still recovering from last week’s whirlwind activity, as we celebrated our very last day in business at The Hangout on 4th Street, packed up all our books and furniture, rolled on down to our new digs at 2106 E. 4th Street, and set up our January Mentorship book displays at Steel Cup Cafe and KUBO LB!
We owe everlasting gratitude to our amazing volunteers who helped us move last Tuesday (pictured above, clockwise, Nannette, Lavinia, Shira, Samantha, Jade, and not pictured: Elana, Phil, and Matt).
We’ll spend the eight weeks (or so) unpacking, getting furniture and fixtures into their proper places, setting up our computer and sales systems, and making all the fun finishing touches (think: book mural, art installations, decoupage, chalkboard signage, and more). In the meantime, you can visit us inside KUBO LB and Steel Cup Cafe, join us at our upcoming events and book clubs, and support us by ordering books online and placing bulk/corporate orders by emailing us directly.
Here’s to more joy in 2024!

Jho’s Book of the Week
I picked up a copy of AGAINST THE LOVELESS WORLD by Susan Abulhawa at B Street Books in San Mateo while visiting family late last year. My eye was drawn to the bold red cover, and Viet Thanh Nguyen’s emphatic praise sold me: “[An] utterly compelling novel of love, passion, and politics.”
Like so many of us, I’ve been learning about Palestinian history and the violent suppression of its lands, people, and culture by the Israeli occupation. Abulhawa’s novel plunges you straight into this world, with its unflinching narrator, Nahr, a Palestinian woman who grows up in exile in Kuwait, flees on war-torn city after another, and becomes and Israeli political prisoner.
Bleak as this description may be, Abulhawa also paints an incredibly vibrant and beautiful community as Nahr travels to Palestine and reconnects with her roots. A #JhoApproved must-read!
